You’re eager for an experience that leaves you re-awakened & with a natural glow, a giddy stomach, and an inner sense of calm – knowing you already have everything that you need & that everything is possible.
You’re hungry for a weekend filled with sisterhood, deep and honest conversations and connection – with incredible and inspiring women. A warm bath of belonging, the sense that you’ve known them your entire life.
You’re looking for a safe space to show a bit more of you – all parts of you, even those you normally don’t express or face that easily. We’re here to hold space for the entirety of you – perfect, as you are.
Who is this Urban Retreat NOT for?
We don’t want to exclude anybody, but it is helpful to be open and honest about who this experience might not be suitable for.
This might not be the thing for you, if you plan to walk away with a 3-page action plan on how to glue your life back together (whatever that may mean), including a timeline with deadlines – you know, by which date you can expect to be ‘perfect/normal/fitting in’.
This experience also might not be for you if you dislike the sound of laughter, and are not interested in getting to know new friends, spontaneous dances around the room and getting loads of hugs – though you’re in no way obliged to join in on anything that makes you feel uncomfortable. We might gently invite you to step out of your comfort zone, but there are no musts or tests during this event.
Is there a physical component to the retreat?
We will shake our booties, move around the space, and get a bit of yoga on – but if you’re looking for an intense work out, we’ll have to disappoint you. This weeekend will be more of a ‘work-in’!
The main ‘work out’ you’ll be getting, is that moment you take a deep breath, dare yourself, and let your voice be heard.
It’s the magic that happens when you lean into the support, the clarity, that tad bit of accountability, to – well – find your brave, express yourself & get your ‘work out’. We’re so excited to discover and explore your pearls of wisdom and creativity!
Do I need to bring anything?
Your curiosity. If you have a yoga mat, and love it, please bring it along. If not – we’ll have one for you! The same goes for your favourite (meditation) pillow, bolster, or blanket. We’ll have a decent amount of props available, but if you have tools that make you feel at ease – do bring them! Other things you could bring are an eye pillow – if you have one, your water bottle – though we’ve got plenty of cups available. Business cards, if you have them – for easy connecting (though we’re pretty good at un-easy connecting, so there’s no need to get them if you don’t have them already!). And perhaps a pen – because pens can be like socks; turn your head once, and they’re gone. Extras never hurt. As for clothing, layer up, so that you strip & cover and are comfortable at all times.
Are there things I’d better leave at home?
Do you dare to leave your phone at home? That’d be awesome! If not, please put it on silent. We’re pretty sure you’ll find a better connection without your device attached to your hand during our time together. Any worries and to-do’s you’re able to let go of before the retreat are welcome to stay away as well, but if they’ve found a comfortable spot in your guesthouse – we’ll help you quiet them or gently ask them to go elsewhere :)
I have a nut/seed/something else- allergy, will it be safe for me to attend?
Our lunch and snacks are gluten-free and vegan. Please contact us if you have any sensitivities and requests, so that we can take them into account for the meal and snacks on offer.
I really want to come, but am not sure if I can afford this right now. Do you have a payment plan?
We don’t want to exclude anyone based on the cost of the event. If you are excited and motivated to join, and would like to set up a payment plan – please shoot us a message and we’ll work things out!
I’m not sure if I’ll be able to attend the event, there’s so much to do in Vancouver in the summer. Will you run this again?
No, this is a once in a lifetime option (at least in 2017!). Marthe is flying in from Norway to share her Wide Open Heart with us here in North America, after which both of us will fly out to continue our HWO-tour in Europe, during this unique offering. If you feel like doing a happy dance while reading about this weekend and our message, please join in!
Will I be able to attend even though I have an injury or disability?
While we welcome everyone to dance their hearts out, our weekend together won’t be very physically active. If you have an injury of any kind, you’ll likely be able to participate in the retreat. Please contact us with your current concerns, so that we can make sure you’ll be comfortable.
The offer sounds amazing, but the thought of spending a retreat with 14-ish strangers makes me slightly nervous – it sounds quite intense?
We know what you mean, we’re pretty introverted ourselves – though you wouldn’t always say! We’ve designed the flow of the retreat to be such that there is a good balance between group- and partner work, and more introspective/alone-time. We’ll keep an eye out for the overall energy of the group, and pause and center where needed. You also have full control to take a break at any moment – the space is set up in a way that you can easily retreat from the group for a while, and spend some time sipping tea, journalling or expressing your thoughts and emotions as you please and need.
I’m afraid I might get triggered during some of the group exercises we’ll be doing. How will you make sure I’m safe?
One of the reasons we are co-facilitating this, as a team, is so that we can tend to participants’ individual needs throughout the day. We both have a lot of personal experience with mental health issues and trauma, and know what it’s like to be a bit anxious around doing some of this deeper work. It is our main intention to create a safe space for you at all times, and to cater to your current needs. This might mean that one of us will spend some time one-on-one with you, while the other keeps the group going through an exercise, or that we skip an exercise all-together if we feel it doesn’t fit in with the group’s needs at the time.
Do you have a cancellation or refund policy?
Refunds aren’t available, but tickets are transferable in case you aren’t able to attend.
What happens when – for whatever reason – you are unable to facilitate this retreat?
In case something life-changing shows up for either one of us, and we have to cancel the event, we will either refund your investment – or have you choose to use it towards any of our other services/future events.
